How To Help

Literacy Action operates as a school, educating over 500 adult students per year. The ability to provide this free service to these motivated and adult students, is based on a hard working small staff (including teachers paid hourly), generous donations and valuable volunteers.  In short, we depend on your contributions to provide the resources needed to help low literacy adults develop their knowledge and potential, achieve his or her goals, and to participate fully in our increasingly complex society.

In the early years, we received federal funds but when these grants ended volunteers, trustees and staff raised private funds to continue.  The annual cost per student, or average cost of services per individuals served, is approximately $2,000/student.  Each year we campaign to raise sufficient funds to finance quality services.  Private donors include: businesses, civic associations, community groups, family funds and charitable trusts, company foundations, independent foundations, grassroots individuals and United Way of Metro Atlanta.

Over the last several years, we have received a small portion of our annual revenue from local governments, Fulton County Human Services and the Atlanta Housing Authoity.
