Literacy Action, Inc. is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year.  Literacy Action has been serving the metro Atlanta community continuously since 1968 and is the largest community based adult basic education provider in Georgia.  Please click here for more information about our 40th Anniversary Luncheon, September 18th, 2008.

Literacy Action provides teacher-led classroom instruction for functionally illiterate adults.  These adults want the tools, skills, and education they need to build their self-esteem and become successful in today’s complex environment.

The definition of functional illiteracy has changed drastically over the past 40 years. Literacy refers to a person's ability to read, write, speak, and solve problems at levels necessary to function on the job or in society, achieve one's goals and develop one's knowledge and potential.  Approximately 880,000 people in metro Atlanta are functionally illiterate.

Literacy Action meets these basic education needs for adults as well as providing free employment oriented educational programs, including computer skills courses to help our students improve their opportunities for success.

Literacy Action is a not-for-profit, 501(c) 3 agency
