Literacy Action is dedicated to creating a positive impact on our community and the students that we serve.

Who We Serve
- Literacy Action serves 600-700 students annually
- All are low income
- 98% are native English speakers
- 90% are at or below the poverty level
- More than 50% are women (half of whom are single heads of households)
- 40% are the primary caregiver to a school-aged child
- Many enter our program reading at a 5th grade level
- The cost of educating an adult for one year at Literacy Action is less than $2,000
- In 2001, the average annual operating expenditure per inmate in U.S. state prisons was$22,650,and the average annual expenditure per pupil in U.S. public elementary and secondary schools was $7,734
