Volunteers allow our students to receive additional assistance and help further their education. There are many ways you can volunteer and become involved with our organization and students. Below are our requirements and the different volunteering opportunities.

OPPORTUNITY REQUIREMENTS PROCESS
CLASSROOM ASSISTANT
Individual Volunteering

Assist instructors in reading, writing, math, work skills, GED, or computer classes in various ways as needed, including working individually or with small groups of students who need extra help in class, helping to monitor classroom activities, grading papers, etc.
  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Complete and pass the following online Thinkfinity Online Training Courses: Orientation to Volunteering in Literacy & Working with Adult Literacy Learners.
SATURDAY LEARNING LAB TUTOR
Individual Volunteering
NO SATURDAY CLASSES AND LEARNING LAB THIS SEMESTER.
Assist current students who visit LAI Learning Lab individually and in small groups in reading, writing, or math. Direct students to learning resources and maintain time log of students who visit the lab.
  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Complete and pass the following online Thinkfinity Online Training Courses: Orientation to Volunteering in Literacy & Working with Adult Literacy Learners.
ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER
Individual Volunteering

Help in development efforts to support increased class offerings and free classes for more students.
  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with volunteer coordinator.

 

REGISTRAR ASSISTANT
Individual Volunteering
Assist the Registrar with student in-take, attendance and more!
(Training Provided)

 

  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with volunteer coordinator.
GAIN TEST ADMINISTRATOR
Individual Volunteering
Administer the GAIN assessment to new and existing students.
(Training Provided)
  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 3 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with volunteer coordinator.
  • Meet with Lead Teacher to discuss testing protocol.
  • Become GAIN certified. (necessary material provided)
ORIENTATION VOLUNTEER
Individual Volunteering
Assist with new student orientation.
Includes presenting PowerPoint presentation, administering goal sheets and student information sheets.
(Training provided)

 

  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with volunteer coordinator.
  • Observe student orientation.
WAIT-LIST CLASS TUTOR
Individual Volunteering
Provide assignments and assistance to students waiting to be place in class.

  • Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma (or GED) or be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college program.
  • Commit 2 hours a week to volunteering.
  • Possess computer skills which enable you to navigate the Internet, e-mail, and basic Microsoft applications.
  • Observe at least 1 class for a minimum of 1 hour.
  • Interview with volunteer coordinator.
